A powerful and beautiful book for young readers to embrace who they are, and to enjoy the magic of what makes them unique.

This is a really cute book. I love how the author used tangerine seeds in the story. I would definitely read this story to my children. This story reminds me of the watermelon story I was told as a kid. I had a big family growing up. Every year we had a family reunion. Our cousins loved to torture us. We had watermelons. We were told that if we ate the watermelon seeds then a watermelon would grow inside and blow. It’s really funny now. It was not funny then though.

Though we have no biographical data to allow us to relate to the author and illustrator Catalina Sánchez (Vega), we soon discover that she is a fresh face on the scene of children's books. And there is a comment from the author on her blogspot, `If you struggle with your curly hair, you should definitely read my book. My older sister played a joke on me and decided to make up a lie about my beautiful curly hair. I had my doubts about her story so I went and asked my mom about it, moms are always right. Read to find out what happens next. I love my hair and although it is hard to manage, I always enjoy its shape and personality.'The story opens with Lucia's sister warning her not to swallow tangerine seeds - that every time a tangerine was swallowed a tree would grow in her stomach. Lucia ponders about all the times she HAD swallowed tangerine seeds. When Julia tells Lucia that the reason their mother ties Lucia's hair up is to hide the branches. Aghast, that night Lucia looked in the mirror and sure enough, she saw a branch on top of her head: Julia was right! The next day Lucia tried on many hats but she didn't like the way they felt. She took them off, went outside and let the sun and breezes blow her hair. But at sunset in her shadow her hair looked like twisty branches. Lucia goes home and her mother fixes her hair while Lucia explains what Julia had told her about eating tangerine seeds. Her mother laughed and said that her 'branches' were just lots of curls, like all the women in the family. The relieved Lucia is happy - her hair is beautiful, mysteriously curly, and HERS!The combination of richly colorful art and the reassurance Catalina gives little girls about the way they look being normal is a fine combination for a first children's book. This is just the right balance between entertainment and teaching - the hallmark of what hopefully will become a series of children's book by this talented author/illustrator. I am pleased to give five stars to a resource that contains all the features I find useful in a light, compact, and comprehensive companion for Hebrew and Greek Bible reading, as far as is possible on a basic Kindle e-reader. The similar titles I purchased and used before this one became available had serious flaws, such as poor navigation, missing entries, and/or more-or-less sloppy layout. There are other titles that specialize in only the New Testament, which have similar convenient navigation and features, and these made me wish for a resource like this one.Here are some important points to note:- This not only contains a neatly arranged electronic edition of James Strong's original work (a classic, though with its limitations), but also the entries from the so-called "Enhanced Strong's Lexicon" (by Woodside Bible Fellowship of Ontario) that appears in many Bible software suites, often under other elusive names, but with the same entries. These glosses/definitions are drawn from sources more recent and comprehensive sources than that of Strong's (Brown-Driver-Briggs and Thayer, with improvements). Combined with the convenience of Strong's concordance, this is definitely an upgrade over a printed concordance, once you are comfortable with Kindle navigation.- I find it very easy and convenient to navigate, at least on my Kindle. I am able to navigate between books, chapters, and verses as easily as I can on any other well-designed resource. (It could be, too, that I am using an up-to-date edition of the resource).- This is not just for people who prefer the King James Version over other translations, or vice versa. If you have a basic knowledge of Hebrew and Greek, using classic resources and comparing them to modern ones is a valuable exercise in critical thinking, and sharpening one's proficiency in the lexical data of the both Testaments.In sum, if you have a printed Bible in the original languages and would like to have access to a comprehensive concordance with dictionaries, this is worth beyond its low price.

Good in most respects, but difficult to maneuver between sections. The most annoying feature is that once engaged in a search, it is not possible to return to a previous location without starting the search all over again. The "back arrow" takes you all the way back to the cover of the book. Also, the "Go To" feature on the menu gives you a number pad so that you must enter the number of the page you want, not the title of the feature,such as "Table of Contents."

I love the paper version of the concordance but it is bulky BULKY! so I thought the kindle version would be a time and muscle saver not to mention space saver. It does save space it is imminently portable and weighs nothing more than the rest of the books in my library. HOWEVER, and this is huge so dont miss it...YOU cant get around in it. IT is the most ungainly uncooperative ridiculously user unfriendly thing I have seen since..well, gluing pages shut. is is as though all the books are in one cover and to find anything you have to go to the first page of the first book and page through. at least with real books you can grab a section two inches deep and approximate your way to your goal. Not with his. It should have been set up as the 70 books it actually is. so that each book of the bible is reachable from the inventory and each chapter is reachable from the index and only then do you start turning individual pages. I labored on this for hours and finally gave it up as a bad idea and will delete it from my kindle. So sad because it was a great idea, just a terrible execution.

The app is a great resource but not designed for a phone. Going back and forth between scripture or reference material is complicated. I haven't found an easy way to go to a specific scripture, a lot of hit and miss in trying to find a right spot. Going from scripture to a reference resource and back to the scripture has proven to be an impossible task for me on my phone. I haven't tried it yet on a tablet, but I am removing the app from my phone. its not really user friendly.

The material in the book is great, it's finding the material that is the problem. The navigation of this book is atrocious, continually looping you back to the front cover of the book. I'd love to buy this book again, as I think it is a tremendous resource, but there are better options right now. I do hope that they rework the navigation of this book.My deepest thanks for Amazon for issuing a refund on this item.

Great! You can find Bible books and verses with a touch. A touch on a word takes you to the Strong's Concordance for that word and gives you the Hebrew & Greek, how many times found in the Bible, and the various definitions. You can also type in a search for a word, phrase, question and have it search the Bible for you! It is phenomenal!! And the price is sooooooo cheap for what it includes. I take it to Sunday school and church on my iPad.

If you have a hard copy of Strongs Exhaustive Concordance Hang on to it. For me it is much easier to get around in than this.The search instructions are hard to understand and in at least one case it simply does not work.

This is an amazing resource in Kindle format. Navigation on both my PC and my iPad Air 2 are quite good. When clicking a link, the back arrow works perfectly for me -- it does not merely send me to the beginning of the book, but right back where I left off. Having the KJV, Strongs, Greek and Hebrew dictionaries and more provides an excellent Bible study environment. The price makes it a bargain as well.

Ever since finishing The Broken Earth trilogy, I've been obsessed ever since. And this collection is no different. While it's different than anything I've ever seen, it truly showcases Jemisin's true gift of writing. Jemisin is such a talented writer in terms of characters and setting. Even though these stories are shorter, there is no lack of attention to detail and world building. Each one establishes us in a world, with characters who grab us, and stories with glorious mystery.

This is one of the most creative, thoughtful, frightening collections I have read in years. I sincerely recommend it to fans of her books and to all readers of sci-fi and fantasy.

An absolutely outstanding collection of short fiction from one of the best writers in speculative fiction today. This collection really show's off Jemisin's range and depth as a writer, and also gives you some insight into how her style has evolved over the years. Every story here is a gem, and some will probably make you drool because of the amazing descriptions of food and baked goods.

N.K. Jemisin writes about hopelessness and hope. She shares anger and frustration over discrimination and subjugation but her characters don't give up. They don't stop fighting. As she has in her novels she writes with beautiful prose and creates new and amazing realities and worlds. Read this book and you will remember it for a long time.

I pre-ordered this as soon as I saw it. I’ll read anything Jemisen writes, and I cannot tell you enough how good this book is.This is everything I want science fiction/fantasy to be. Every story is fully realized, in a rich and intricate world, and makes you want more. I would read a novel set in any of these worlds in a heartbeat.I’m not going to talk about the content, because that’s for you to explore. But every story is a gem. Read it. Now.

I read a lot. For technical understanding, for general knowledge, and much for pleasure. Often, even in the third, seventh, eleventh, etc iteration, I find myself going faster and faster, driven scene to scene.Here I felt compelled to slow down. To feel the words in my head, hear them on my tongue, taste them with my lips.Do yourself a favor: read this.

This was the first work I have read by N.K. Jemisin, who I discovered through those bizarre chains we all follow that lead to new authors on Twitter.I enjoyed it immensely. It was incredibly refreshing to read such a wide variety of stories told from different perspectives. There are so many I’m not even sure I can describe them here. Settings that feel like a variation on Ancient Egypt or the Ancient Near East. Settings that feel like New Orleans in the Jazz Age. Settings on other planets or on space ships in the far future. Settings in our own dystopian future Earth. And the characters! Such breadth! Characters from every background and of every temperament - not to mention male, female, non-binary, gay, straight - everything!I have never read anything like (I’m taking a moment to think whether ANY of the stories felt remotely familiar to me) the vast majority of these tales. Everything about them felt completely fresh (and sometimes challenging) to me. I sometimes had a feeling of disorientation, like I had been unexpectedly thrown into the deep end while I tried to find my feet in short story after short story, and I would love to read more of N.K. Jemisin’s work. The narratives and characters stretched and challenged me personally, and I thoroughly enjoyed it even when the details sometimes horrified me (the story about The Masters!!!).My favorite stories were the ones set in New Orleans. My next step will be to find out if any of her other works are set there - if so, those will be next in my to-read stack.

I loved N.K. Jemisin's '100 thousand kingdoms' trilogy but haven't yet read the Broken Earth trilogy. This collection is fantastic and much bigger than I expected. The intro is well worth reading, and is a great glimpse into her start and goals as a writer, and her experiences. I hope many high school English teachers will add this book to their reading lists for students! The first story is titled “The Ones Who Stay and Fight” and is “a pastiche of and a reaction to Le Guin’s “The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas.”These are going to be amazing little stories to read and digest slowly, I think!

I own several of Kerry Lord's crochet books and have been enjoying her last one which is based on monsters. This time, she brings a pick and choose style book based on dolls. There are flip pages which show heads and bodies and you choose which one goes with which.Note that, once again, the instructions are provided in UK terms. Essentially, for the purposes of this book, UK dc (double crochet) is equal to US sc (single crochet.) To get full equivalents for UK/US terms, you can easily find them on the internet.The photo instructions in the book are done extremely well. Between “seeing” how to do something with the photo and reading the instructions, it is easy to follow along. Another great thing about this book is that it is spiral bound so turning both full pages and partial pages is done with the touch of a finger. As you are choosing what goes with what, it makes it much easier to put a project together than would have been if a traditional binding had been used.The first part of the book is made up of two segments – head and body. You flip to the pages you want based on the photo and on the back of the page are the instructions.There are three suggested sizes of yarn for the dolls DK, Aran (worsted) and Bulky. I think you can use any size yarn but need to be consistent throughout the project to keep the component sizes in synch.The book also goes into some detail about skin tones, hair and various wardrobe accessories that you can make using the patterns in the book. I appreciate that both female and male doll components were included as I crochet for both my grandson and granddaughter. They have enjoyed the monsters I have been making from Ms. Lord's last book and will now have some dolls to play with as well. I simply can't imagine where Ms. Lord's imagination will take us next, but I will certainly be looking for any new crochet books she releases.

This book is very well set up I love the patterns. Had to double take a project though when it was coming out too big as a reminder this book is written in UK crochet terms which are different from US by a smidge. Easy fix though and it came out much better the second time.

I was really looking forward to making some of these, however I came across several mistakes. Some of the patterns in the costume section were seriously out of order in an obvious way. It makes them difficult to follow. I'm going to return the item.

Despite multiple attempts with the standard body- I can only conclude that the written pattern has some mistakes. Cute book and I like the format however am disappointed in the mistakes.

I like the way it is an adult board book with 3 partitions on each page to select hair body. and clothing.I can be creative--and correct, with my doll making. This will be a faorite, oft referred to instruction book.

I am much more comfortable knitting, but for certain things, liked stuffed animals and dolls, crochet is better. This book gave me little tips for crocheting which have helped me with all other patterns as well as these. Love the creativity in these patterns.

I am a forever fan of Kerry Lord's crochet books. I have tried other artists, but I feel her patterns are the best. Friends and family always want me to crochet something from her patterns, and I know the creations from this book will be just as popular.

My German Proffesor had me read this for an assignment, and it was a BEAST to get through.The good stuff: You can see the amount of work and dedication this author put in. Occasionally, parts could be humorous, which was nice.The bad stuff: Really hard to read fluidly. There are a lack of commas to break up thoughts, which were very distracting. It’s also really boring to read if you don’t have a thorough understanding of Europe’s history and geography already.Did I enjoy reading it most of the time? No. But I have a level of respect for the author and his work, and I think to those who are more in tuned to culture and history, this would be a really good read.

This is a delightfully translated, rich and ornate, not so much travelogue as intellectual and literary history, of what Magris is pleased to term Mitteleuropa. Indeed, the reader looking for actual descriptions of the Danube will fine them few and far between, whereas the intellectual - capital I - reader will find a SmörgÃ¥sbord of poets and writers of all sorts who have dwelt along the banks of the Danube for centuries.Magris, though his prose may come across as dense at times, is actually a bon-vivant with a rather breezy, hedonistic take on life. This is fortunate, for it serves to leaven the sometimes ponderous meditations the reader comes across.This duality of text and attitude is nicely encapsulated in the first two paragraphs of the chapter entitled "Believing In Ulm".On the one hand, in the first paragraph:"But all that is real is being erased each instant, even if luckily not always in the bloodstained theatre of phosphorous bombs. Little by little, however, things are imperceptibly erased, and one cannot do otherwise than believe that they nonetheless exist."On the other hand, in the second:"We are happy in the company of people who make us feel the unquestionable presence of the world, just as the body of the beloved gives us the certainty of those shoulders, that bosom, that curve of the hips, the surge of those as incontestable as the sea."In general, there is a tendency to delve to a greater or lesser extent into the life and works of a writer or thinker, whetting the reader's appetite, and then, quite often, drolly cock a snook at said individual before moving on to a writer who dwelt further down the Danube. This is nowhere more evident than in his treatment of the Hungarian writer Georg Lukács, on whom Magris dwells for some time before jauntily quipping in the penultimate paragraph that: "From his window he could see the great Danube, but he probably had little appreciation of it, insensitive as he was to nature, which in his eyes was blemished by not having read Kant or Hegel."The result of all this? A bit of a mixed bag, I should say. As Magris says of another writer, "The result is that he says too little and too much at the same time." Be this as it may, the author is widely read and the book is quite fun to read for the intellectual traveller who doesn't mind being taken down a Danube of history and ideas, if not the actual river.

Mind-blowing erudition. Allusions to literature, philosophy, psychology, history, mythology. . . the author's range knows no bounds. Could not put this book down!

Not your typical travelogue but a voyage down the Danube through literature, history and culture by an erudite commentator. Helps to have some background in the area, or read a general history in conjunction.

Very interesting full of facts

Magris is a professor of German literature with a degree in foreign languages in the university of Torino. In 1995 Klagenfurt gave him the honorary doctoral degree. He is also a columnist of Corriere della sera. I firstly saw the blue Danube in February 2011 without never had been a dancer of waltz or of anything good. I went to Vienna where I visited the museum of natural sciences. I particularly appreciated the reconstruction of the Miller-Urey experiment of 1952. "About 3 billion and a half years ago, the atmosphere of the Earth contained ammonium, hydrogen, methane, water. By simulating lightning on these chemical elements, after a day an organic compound was formed which contained the most common 20 amino-acids, which serve to build proteins. Later with a collection technique more accurate the Singhalese Ponnamperuma discovered that also all the elements which make the DNA molecule were present. The same phenomenon which generated life on the Earth may happen in other planets (Roberto Fideli, Il metodo comparativo, cap. 1, Macerata, Simple, 2013). Maybe a cruise on the blue Danube will be wonderful for me in the future as a straight European man. This book by the German philologist Magris published in 1986 may be a guide for the independent traveller who is in touch with natural sciences. But two commentaries of mine to two captions are needed."a naturalist is unlikely to believe in the 'religion of humanity' (p. 161)."I really find that two articles of the universal declaration of human rights have a foundation in nature: the article 16, which recognizes the natural character of human family, and the article 25, which gives every consenting adult the right to heterosexual health -- behaviour which joins us to all other animals with a sexual reproduction" (Roberto Fideli, Saggi di gnoseologia, Macerata, Simple, 2014, 129-130; see my review of Eibl-Eibesfeldt too)."The taxi-driver... takes me to Freud's house and surgery... (he is one of) the... founders of the new science" (p. 203). Despite my lack of driving licence, I notice that the Austrian Freud, graduated in medicine in Vienna, published his essay Ãœber Coca in 1884 and never changed his mind. He never recognized his mistake. But tobacco is still legal everywhere; and tolerance is common.Now Magris is probably the most known scholar of Germanic philology in Italy. As an Italian living in Gallura, in my latest publication Saggi di gnoseologia I mentioned the Florentine Germanist Onesti, who unfortunately died in August. Another ground-breaking book from Al Power whose knowledge of, and empathy for, "people whose cognition is different from that of the mainstream" will lead the way to a dementia friendly society if both professionals and lay people read and learn from it. As Board President of Alzheimer's Services of the East Bay, ASEB, I am ordering several copies for our staff and encouraging every Board Member to buy it.Powers describes a path to create Well-being for every individual, no matter how advanced the dementia. Its basis is covered in seven chapters that describe and explore the seven domains of Well-being: Identity, Connectedness, Security, Autonomy, Meaning, Growth and Joy. Each domain is explored with input from "True Experts" such as Richard Taylor, Ph.D., one of "The three men I admire the most" who work in this field. Numerous examples from the experiences of both Power and Taylor show at first hand both practices that enhance well-being, and, those that, however well-meaning, are in fact dis-empowering. A particular example that stuck in my mind, because I have seen it myself, was when Taylor talked to two ladies engaged in the "activity" of folding clothes. They were perfectly aware that staff took the clothes away, rumpled them, and brought them back for more folding.

Dr. G. Allen Power has shown himself to be a fantastic advocate for people with dementia. I saw him at a conference and talked to him later in a phone interview about his support of the Music and Memory program. The personality that shined through in those conversations comes through in this book. He is compassionate and his book gives concrete evidence for the more humane approach to dementia care.

This is a book that needs reading by so many. It can be hard to read (so 4 stars) but the central theme is exactly in the right place. I am reading it for me! As I get older, the type care Dr. Power is describing is exactly what I want to find! and I will be looking for it and demanding it for me and mine!

I bought this for the second time. It should be required reading for the adult retirement communitiy industry!

Vinnie provided me with a review copy of this title though I lost the review tug-of-war on my site with a colleague. I'll be upfront, Vinnie and I don't agree on the future of jobs and robotics, some of which came out in a (free) podcast I did with him. The nutshell is he is more optimistic than I am. But what makes Vinnie's views different is that he has grounded them in rigorous research. This book provides a host of field examples of how innovative companies in various industries are utilizing robotics in ways that arguably enhance both their own growth and also the job roles humans can play.One thing Vinnie and I are in total agreement on: the robotics debate has become a breeding ground for sensational headlines and irresponsible/alarmist takes not grounded in rigor and research. Vinnie's efforts are a corrective to that, in this not-too-long book. He has done this successfully in the past, including The New Polymath which is a personal favorite. Readers can benefit from the methodology he brings to this volatile/necessary topic.Vinnie's research - including historical examples - leads him to some conclusions about automation that may surprise. Though he is optimistic, the book does not deny some major changes that will be required in how employees and employers view skills acquisition and resource deployment (e.g. less full-time "traditional" work). But he also believes that technology can open up "2nd and 3rd acts" for those with the courage and foresight to re-invent.I won't get into his examples in detail here, but Vinnie recently blogged about an interesting case for the "iOS app economy," which "has created 1.2 million jobs in Europe and 1.4 million jobs in China.” He makes that case that machines are a form of talent that drives growth of everything from AWS to IoS to UPS.. I continue to disagree with Vinnie about the impact of robotics on jobs, and now is not the time or place to get into that. However, I won't deny that his book and perspective have influenced my thinking. I suspect it will do the same for you - whatever your position.

Thank goodness somebody finally saw the glass as half full. There has been a spate of books like, “Race Against the Machine” and “The Second Machine Age” just to pick two very good books, that leave the impression that automation is taking over all the good jobs and we’re all on the road to ruin. It’s not that these books are wrong, they are not, but they don’t tell the other half of the story. Vinnie Mirchandani tells us that half.The nature of capitalism going all the way back to Adam Smith has been what Joseph Schumpeter, in the 20th century, called creative destruction. Simply put it is the tendency for new innovations to overtake older ones leaving them beached at low tide along with anyone who’d invested time, talent, energy, or money in them. The Luddites, English textile workers in the 19th century are the primary example of people who were outrun by the technology of their day and rebelled rather than adjust. Let’s just say that it didn’t end well.Mirchandani has a better idea. In this exhaustively researched book, he uncovers both the creation and the destruction and shows where new doors are opening even while others are closing. The result is an optimistic look at the future of jobs and employment even as machines take over the mundane, the rote, and the boring. Unsurprisingly, the conclusion is that this transition leaves much more room for human creativity if we have the courage to adapt to the new opportunities.While this book is well researched and brimming with examples of people and businesses that have taken on creative destruction determined to win at this game, Mirchandani’s style is to let his subjects tell the story only interjecting commentary when needed. He’s a great analyzer of situations though and for my taste I would have welcomed more of his direct wisdom.If you are interested in the future of employment and technology and where they intersect you should read this gem.

Having read Fr. Gaitley's "Consoling The Heart Of Jesus" and his "33 Days To Morning Glory", a Marian Consecration book based on the thought of St. Louis de Montfort, St. Maximilian Kolbe, St. John Paul II, and Blessed (soon to be St.) Teresa of Calcutta, I was excited to see that he had taken up the subject of a Consecration to Divine Mercy based largely on St. Therese's "Offering To Merciful Love" with a little bit of St. Faustina added.Today is Divine Mercy Sunday. I made Fr. Gaitley's "Prayer of Consecration to Merciful Love" on pages 134 and 135 and renewed my "Offering to Merciful Love" in the words of the Little Flower, on pages 135 and 136, which I first made on June 9, 1995, the 100th anniversary of Therese first making the Consecration. This book can best be summarized by some words on pages 55-57:"[T]he Little Way is all about the heart of the Gospel: Divine Mercy. It's all about remaining little and then arriving at the heights of holiness through the descending mercy of Jesus. ... It's about accepting that we are to put up with ourselves - with all the darkness of our weakness, brokenness, and sin, - without getting discouraged. It's recognizing, without giving up, that some struggles are chronic. It's realizing, without despairing, that they may be with us till our dying day. But it's also about realizing that this does not prevent us from becoming saints."I particularly liked and lingered on days 2 thru 7, which are about the importance of faith (trust) and the great faith and trust of our Mother in Faith, Mary, and our Father in Faith, Abraham. They believed God's promises would be fulfilled despite how humanly impossible those promises seemed. However little Faith one has had, however greatly one has sinned, one should never despair of God's Merciful Love as St. Therese tells us:"[E]ven though I had on my conscience all the sins that can be committed, I would go, my heart broken with sorrow, and throw myself into Jesus' arms, for I know how much He loves the prodigal child who returns to Him." (PP. 54,55)And St. Faustina:"Let our judgment of souls cease, for God's mercy upon them is extraordinary. ... Oh, how beyond comprehension is God's mercy! ... God's mercy sometimes touches the sinner at the last moment in a wondrous and mysterious way." (PP. 192, 193)

In this follow-up, "33 Days to Merciful Love: A Do-It-Yourself Retreat in Preparation for Consecration to Divine Mercy," Fr. Michael Gaitley of the Marian Fathers invites us to make a consecration to Divine Mercy using St. Therese’s Offering to Merciful Love as our role model.According to Fr. Gaitley, “You don’t have to read '33 Days to Morning Glory' before reading this book – but I strongly recommend that you do. I say that because the essence of Marian consecration is to allow Mary to bring us to the pierced side of Jesus, which is the Fountain of Mercy . . .“This book, on the other hand, is about drinking from the Fountain of Mercy. And while we can get to that fountain without making a Marian consecration, such a consecration enables us to drink from it so much more deeply and easily.” This is the Year of Mercy, however, so if you want to make this consecration to Divine Mercy, I encourage you to do so.Unlike "33 Days to Morning Glory," this book does not focus on four different saints. Instead, it focuses on St. Therese of the Child Jesus, a Doctor of the Church and one of the most-loved saints of modern times, and her spiritual teaching. As one would expect in a book on Divine Mercy, some of the insights and teachings of St. Maria Faustina Kowalska are also included.Week one of "33 Days to Merciful Love" focuses on backstory: the Garden of Eden, Abraham, and Mary, the Mother of God. Week two explores St. Therese’s Little Way. Week three examines the Offering to Merciful Love, and the final week looks at the mystery of darkness in St. Therese’s life and in our own lives. The final five days provide a review of all that has been covered.

I have read "33 Days to Morning Glory" several times and have even done the consecration process with groups at my parish. I attended Fr. Gaitley's retreat on "Mary and Mercy" and at the time, he asked us to pray that he may complete this particular book. Boy, were my prayers answered! I am only on Day 11 and am finding so much comfort and inspiration in these words!! I am so grateful that Fr. Gaitley writes books such as this for us 'little souls' who try to be holy, but are often discouraged by our falls and faults. This read is making this Lenten season particularly meaningful. I highly recommend this book, especially if you love the Little Flower.

The daily readings are very short and very readable. Completely doable every day. This was such a game changer for me, and has completely changed my life. I guess I didn't really understand divine mercy before reading this book. I love this book and will read it many times. This should be read by everyone but especially every catholic. Can't recommend enough I have read many of his books and he truly is doing Gods work writing these. I strongly suggest reading Consoling the Heart of Jesus also as it gives you deeper info on the topic.

You can't ever deserve sainthood or earn your way into heaven. But, in this easy to read self directed 33 day retreat you will discover, in just a small amount of time each day, how God will do just that for you, and work through you to do the same for others. As a Catholic permanent deacon, insurance agent, prison chaplain, and grandfather I find time for prayer is hard to come by. This worked even with my hectic schedule. It is suggested, but not required that you time this 33 day journey so that the 33rd day coincides with a feast day in honor of our Lord or the Blessed Mother.

Learning How to LearnA friend pointed this out to me, “Learning How to Learn” is unique among books written by Idries Shah in that he answers questions posed by contemporary students in Sufism. Almost all the other books that Shah wrote contain teaching stories that leave a reader to work things out. In this volume, Shah provides some guidance for those students unsure of themselves. Here Shah shows a would be Sufi where they can go off the rails, in a manner of speaking.For me, one of the most significant problems a novice faces is that they are educated. Let me express this another way, the methods and techniques that lead to success in learning say economics or mathematics do not necessarily apply to Sufi learning. The subject of a Sufi education is the self. In this sense, it doesn’t matter whether you are an astrophysicist or plumber. (In fact, Shah might suggest that plumber has an advantage in that he doesn’t think of himself as well educated already, so he is more open to learning.)And that gets us to the main power of “Learning How to Learn,” this book shows us how our conditioned mind acts as a barrier to perceiving our true nature. As I read this book, I continually got the sense that I was seeing myself. I kept hearing myself say, ‘Gosh, I’m like that. That is me.’ Along with this sense of seeing myself came the realization that if I wanted to learn I had to change. Learning was changing.I won’t deny that at times I found reading “Learning How to Learn” overwhelming. Coming face to face with my own conditioning was not always a pleasant experience. Ultimately though, I found the book liberating. I began to develop the ability to observe my mind operating. This ability allowed me to see choices that I had not perceived before. I began to get the sense that I was more than my conditioning. Perhaps you will too.

This has probably been the most useful book I have ever had. Please read the excellent and detailed reviews here. With study, this book has opened my mind to much more creative thinking processes. Other books, especially by Mr. Shaw, worked along with with this book, The Sufis, Nasrudin stories, the Tales of The Dervishes, and The Arabian Nights Entertainments. For someone needing baby steps (as I did), try starting with "The Uses of Enchantment" by Dr. Bruno Bettleheim, which might give you some ideas about how to psychologically work with symbols in stories. "Learning How to Learn" was also delightful on the first read, if you merely want entertainment value. The book was invaluable to my personal growth.

I believe Idries Shah was way ahead of his time. While reading some of his work, I have been struck by the "I am not so smart afterall" feeling many times, in a positive way ofcourse.This book was not written in an easy manner, and many of the stories used to ilustrate an idea have different layers of meaning attached to them. That is why to some readers this kind of writting might seem repeling.After reading this book one learns to look at things differently, and to better understand an analyze situations but also to better measure himself. Also, one learns about the power of the story and analogy/methapor in conveying a message.I am very grateful for getting aquinted with Shah's work, and being profited from it. This book came at a perfect moment in my life, and I hope this will be also the case for you.

What can one write about masterpiece?...Not being on any comparable level to such a degree of consciousness, one can only express ones awe and gratitude for being able to contact with it, having a chance to cure or treat, at least, some serious mental ailments and to survive as a human being

It may seem like an irresponsible superlative, but I feel that this is one of the most important books written in the 20th Century. It is a treasure-trove of what I can only -- perhaps unfashionably -- call Wisdom.
