This is such a fun series for kids (and for adults reading with their kiddos). Oh and it involves a ninja, so that's a huge bonus too. My youngest son adores this series. The underlying message in each book is to keep trying and put your best foot forward. While Moby Shinobi makes mistakes during the story line, he always finds a way to shine at the end. These stories are about perseverance and keeping a positive attitude even with things go awry in a comical way.

My son adores these books. He has ADHD and the rhyming pattern of the book really engages him. We are eagerly waiting for book #4 even though we got #3 as soon as it was released :D

My 4 year old son loves the Moby Shinobi Ninja series! We're looking forward to the new one being released in September.

Yeah, yeah, I know, it's a kid's book, almost a comic book with the funky illustrations and strange lettering. It is also really funny and a great break from the "serious stuff" I usually read. Also good to have in the clubhouse library for visiting grand-kids. Another winner from Kinney for those who remember being a kid and "enduring" the family road trips.

Good, but not as good as the previous 8 books in the series. I can't quite put my finger on what's exactly different about this one, but it just doesn't feel right, almost like there was a guest writer attempting to mimic what made the other books so great, but not quite getting it. Maybe there just weren't enough funny digressions & there was definitely far too much wackiness for my tastes (I can handle zany but refuse to accept wacky or madcap.) Gotta say that I'm still looking forward to book 10 tho.

My son is not a big reader and struggles greatly in school. Part of that is a result of his high functioning autism. We ordered this book for him for Christmas and he absolutely LOVES it!He read the entire thing with no assistance. I am so proud of him. I am also thankful he found a series he enjoys that is written well, yet still simply enough he can read it without a struggle.It's funny and cute much like the other books in the series and the movies.

My 10 year old son loves to read Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. He is an avid reader and reads all types of books and genres, yet Diary of a Wimpy Kid is still one of his favorite series to read. We purchased this book for him last year at Christmas, and he read the entire book on Christmas day! We were so surprised, but he was happily curled up in a chair reading away! He loves the illustrations and all the crazy things that the main character, Greg, and his group of friends say and do. You will absolutely want to add this book to your child's collection if they like reading this series!

My son reads on the Kindle app at school using his phone. I checked my email and there was a purchase of this book that I didn't make. He was trying to download the sample and instead accidentally clicked the one click purchase button. Luckily I had a gift card in my account so it was not a big deal. If anyone knows how to take off the one click purchase option on kindle PLEASE let me know. It's so easy to make a mistake. Anyway, he read the book and says he really liked it. He loves this series and hopefully I'll be able to afford to get them all for him over time. At least he bought a book he was interested in, right?!

I couldn't finish the first book without laughing out loud. I don't know if my expectations have gotten higher or what, but I didn't laugh out loud at any point during this one. It was very entertaining though and a few turns were very funny. I just didn't find myself exploding into laughter like before, although the cinnamon rolls play a pretty hilarious part on their path through it. I really enjoyed that.Maybe it was just because of Rowley's absence from this one. He adds a pretty hilarious dynamic to every story.Also maybe another difference is that this book covers one continuous trip from moment to moment. The other books maybe cover longer stretches of time like a journal. So it was hard to find stopping places. That's not a bad thing. Just different.This was very good though and I'd still recommend it.

My 6 year old son began reading "Wimpy Kid" books just as he was learning to read. Many times I would allow him to read before bed and would hear him laughing hysterically in his room. Now, 7 years old, he has read all of them and often will pick them up and read them again. They are silly, but the appeal to his age demographic was actually amazing to me. I didn't have to make him read... he wanted to read. And he loved them all. I would recommend the entire series to any parent of a child who is learning and becoming comfortable with reading comprehension.

But as per usual with the Heffley’s, not everything goes as planned, and the family must face car troubles, wild animals, scummy motels, theft, and much more. Additionally, as the middle child, Greg must also suffer through his older brother’s pranks and his younger brother receiving the most attention.The Long Haul and the rest of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series fall under the genre of realistic fiction graphic novel, with both the writing and illustrations by Jeff Kinney. Kinney has no other books, but also works as a cartoonist and runs a popular children’s gaming website called Poptropica.The illustrations in the series are simple stick figures, black and white, and look as if they are drawn on lined paper. This, along with the large, childish font makes the book truly seem as if the reader is reading Greg’s personal diary (His mother suggested he keep a diary in the first book of the series.) Greg’s perspective and the everyday issues he faces with his family and at school are extremely relatable and comical. Though I would suggest this book for children in grades 4-7, it is funny enough and for parents or older siblings to enjoy as they read alongBecause the drawings are just stick figures outlined in black, it is hard to tell whether multiple cultures and races are being represented. Additionally, the characters that are mainly shown are the five in the Heffley family. I personally think that Kinney is not being prejudice but taking on a Simpsons style illustration where everyone has the same skin tone. As for gender, Greg’s mother is a very stereotypical stay-at-home mom. However, she always has what is best for family at heart, which is what really matters.I used to secretly borrow these books from my younger sister (who also loved them) because it was a little embarrassing for a high-schooler to be reading books geared towards younger children. However, I find the humor to be ageless, and as an older reader I can really see a few important messages that the readers can take away. The first is that family can be a nuisance and a little embarrassing, but in the end they are there for you and you couldn’t live without them. The second message is that middle school can be really tough, but it gets better. The books would definitely assure youth that they are not alone in the issues they face as they grow up and seek independence.
