I highly recommend this book to anyone that is taking the test. I took this test yesterday, I scored an overall composite score of 136, with an 84th percentile in Verbal, 90th Percentile in Math, and 90th Percentile in Science. I don't know what I would have done if I didn't use this book. I literally studied every day out of this book for a month before the test, from cover to cover, 3 times and took each practice test several times while working 40 hours per week and in school.The only negative thing is that the format of the test has changed: 40 minutes for Verbal, 35 minutes for Math, and 40 minutes for Science with the 60 questions for Verbal, 40 questions for math, and 60 questions for science. The research questions are now included in the overall scores, which is good because it improves your score. They need to have a fourth edition with all the new updates.The science section had more ecology than expected, so be sure to study that!Again, this is a MUST BUY for anyone who takes this test! Use this book and answer every practice question, along with reviewing the tips for the exam, and you will pass! I would say probably 40 questions were used directly from this book on the exam.
It’s a good book however there are some errors. Just be aware when you are testing yourself. In the pics I posted where my thumb is on the second photo; the author changed the fraction. I couldn’t figure out how my answer was off till I saw it should’ve read 48 3/4 not 48 1/2. That’s just one example.
The book was fine but I found out after I ordered the book that the NLN (the people who write the exam) do not recommend use of this book for studying for the PAX exam. The book is outdated. Their new study materials are on the NLN website!
Passed my exam and got into the nursing program mainly due to the help of this book. I wasted so much time learning how to long hand math again but they allowed calculators ahahha. Anyway, it was good to learn either way! The hardest part was certainly the physics and chemistry portion in my opinion.
Took the exam today, January 19, 2017. The science section of this guide is missing topics on the current exam. Specifically, nutrition and microbiology are not covered in the review guide. Also, the test format is now different: it is 60 verbal, 40 math, and 60 science questions with 40 minutes allowed per section. So adjust your timer accordingly for the practice tests. I would review your course notes rather than get this guide, at least until they put out a new edition.
This book really helped me study for my nursing entrance exam. At the time I had not been in school for 9 years and I forgot how to do some of the math. It has plenty of practice test to help gauge where you are and where you need to focus. I rented the book which made the cost cheaper.
Studied this book a great deal and passed my PAX first try.
Liked it for studying for my PAX, and found some questions similar but some questions on the new PAX are nothing that is covered in the book at all. I remember getting some questions about the animal food chain and some strange things. I did like the book though and the interactive CD to get used to taking computerized testing. I took the PAX once and got into nursing school first try, so study and do your best!
