I must have around 200 to 300 books on watercolor, but none of them has been as focused and to-the point as this one. I don't think there is a dozen excess words in the whole book. I have highlighted points that are important to me and read the book several times and I've only had it two days! If I had to choose only one book from my library of watercolor instruction books this would be it! If you want to paint in watercolors, BUY THIS BOOK!

This is one of the Best watercolor books ever.Ron is a great artist and instructor. His tips and instructions..step by step are very easy to understand and so informative. Even though I am an advanced painter, there is always more room to learn. I highly recommend this book for both beginner and advanced artists.

I'm not even a watercolorist, but the principles herein were so good and so basic to good painting design, I wound up using them in oils!

I love everything about this book! From Ron’s beautiful art, to his thoughtful gift of helping us learn from his years of practice, a great gift to us... highly recommend!!!

Excellent book. Goes beyond the basics you read in other books. It gives insights to the artist personal strategy and feels like sincere advise. Besides the quality of the format material is great.

I have taken one workshop from Ron and bought the book directly from him to get a signed copy. He has taught at our local art society, OSA, in Portland, OR. Always well received, so I immediately contacted him to order. I have been painting in watercolor for about 10 years and took drawing courses before that. This is a book for an aspiring artist, not a raw beginner. It would be very OK for a beginner to buy it, but know that some experience and instruction will enable you to get more from Ron's book.I have read through it several times now and have marked all the tips I found to be very useful. Go outdoors. Take a sketchbook. Draw what you see. Create and experiment with compositions. Where or what is the focal point? That's where the most detail needs to be as well as the lightest light and darkest dark-together. Modify what you see to create the best composition. On pg. 59, you will see a page of Ron's large Bee sketchbook. That alone should convince you to take a large enough page book outdoors to experiment with BEFORE you start your painting. Iain Stewart is also a big advocate of this technique. As an Urban Sketcher for many years and an addicted travel journal sketcher, I can endorse all of Ron's coaching in the book. The last section is devoted to "Tips and Techniques". A pure novice may not "get" these but anyone who has been on the watercolor journey like I have will read them and say "Yes!". Buy this book and better yet, take a workshop from Ron. I gave this book 4 stars only because I am a very tough person to please!

*~.Book Analysis.~*Just remembering that those were my impressions and opinion as a reader :)Rating: 5 starsReading period: Dec. 22nd, 2018Release date: Dec. 18th, 2018PROSThis book is so enlightening about watercolor painting! I went to art classes for two years during my teen days, but unfortunately financial issues led me away from it – I never actually painted seriously on a canvas and all. I decided to read this book especially because I was about to start water coloring when I dropped my lessons. I admit it is really hard not to look at details, but this is exactly the key point of this art: simplicity.I honestly felt so inspired to learn tricks, techniques and tips from this book that I almost shopped for the materials on Amazon to start right away – maybe when I come back from my Christmas/New Year family trip.CONSHm, maybe a con is that I can’t hug the artist ‘thank you’ for this book?COVER ANALYSISIn this particular case, the cover made me reach for the book. All this beautiful blue had me in a second! I think this defines well how much I liked it, right??QUOTES “Draw all you want, but paint only what you need.” “When it comes to equipment, I think a natural reaction is to bring more than you’ll need. I use one simple rule: if I don’t think I’ll touch it, I don’t bring it. Carrying around too many equipment can ruin your day.”**this one is equally useful for when one is packing up for a trip!RECOMMENDED FORPeople seeking to improve their painting / drawing skills!

En Plein Air: Watercolor is a fascinating art book; one I hadn’t realized I needed to read until I spotted it listed online. This art book teaches you everything you need to know about painting with watercolors out in the real world – out in the open air, so to speak. What originally caught my attention about En Plein Air: Watercolor was the cover. The colors were so beautiful, and the artwork so vibrant, I knew I had to learn more about it. What I found inside did not disappoint. En Plein Air covers everything you might expect, and then some. It is a traditional art book, in that it teaches you everything you need to know about the particular medium included (watercolors, in this case), but as I stated above it also gives you the important starting information for painting outside. That sounds like a simple concept, but there’s more to it than that. This book does a good job of explaining it, and giving tips and tricks. This book is split into seven sections; drawing, painting on location (this was my personal favorite), composition & technique, color & value, tips & techniques, the Artist’s Voice, and sketchbooks to studio. As you can see, it includes a little bit of everything. It’s certainly everything an aspiring artist would need to get started.

I enjoyed reading this book if you can apply world "enjoy" in the case study of totalitarian goverment. This book is very well written. I love the masterful combination of personal stories and socio-political framing. I grew up in USSR and moved to US in early 90s and this book spoke to me. The author does excellent job portraying Soviet and post Soviet world and people in all of it sad and at times gruesome glory.I think for many readers this book will provide deep understanding of why Russia is what it is now and why Putin is is popular. It is also a lesson to all of us on how democracy can slip right thought our fingers.

When I looked up “The Future Is History” on Amazon and saw the 1-star reviews left by obvious trolls, I just *knew* this book had to be dangerously good. So I bought it immediately. I had read several of Gessen's meticulous and eye-opening New Yorker pieces, but this book takes it to a whole new level.Gessen tells the story through seven dramatis personae, each “both ‘regular’, in that their experiences exemplified the experiences of millions of others, and extraordinary: intelligent, passionate, introspective, able to tell their stories vividly.” They give first-person accounts of the everyday ordeal of surviving true to oneself in Russia. Like Zhanna, daughter of popular opposition politician Boris Nemtsov and activist in her own right, whose life demonstrates some of the consequences of opposing the regime -- like exile, incarceration and murder. The story of Masha the journalist illustrates the perils of truthtelling. Pioneering psychotherapist Marina Arutyunyan tries to shepherd modern mental health to Russia through lacerating thickets of state-mandated ideology. Openly gay Lyosha tries to advocate for oppressed minorities without getting fired from his precarious university post.Through the lives of the protagonists, Gessen weaves the last century of Russian history. Stalin’s self-cannibalizing reign of terror is particularly chilling: “Stalin’s terror machine executed its executioners at regular intervals. In 1938 alone, forty-two thousand investigators who had taken part in the great industrial-scale purges were executed, as was the chief of the secret police, Nikolai Yezhov.” Stalin once invited an old friend from Georgia to Moscow for a reunion, and after lavishly wining and dining him, had him executed before dawn: “This could not be explained with any words or ideas available to man.”And that is the most astonishing aspect of this book: it is not fiction. The protagonists’ experiences are so logic-defying, so disheartening, and such violations of basic human decency as to exist in a separate universe that no novelist could concoct. And yet, this universe has an internal logic. Perhaps it's best explained through Hannah Arendt, whose three-volume “Origins of Totalitarianism” Gessen deftly scrunches down to a few essential paragraphs: “What distinguishes a totalitarian ideology is its utterly insular quality. It purports to explain the entire world and everything in it. There is no gap between totalitarian ideology and reality because totalitarian ideology contains all of reality within itself.”And yet, the book reads like a novel, which is why I don’t want to give away too much. Who is Homo sovieticus? For whom do Russians vote in the “Greatest Russian Ever” (aka “Name of Russia”) contest year after year? What’s going to happen to Boris Nemtsov after he defies Putin? Do our heroes avoid getting beat up and arrested at the demonstrations? Why is Putin so popular in Russia? One pervasive theme of the book is the hegemony of doublethink over the Russian psyche. Coined by Orwell in “1984”, doublethink is the necessity of maintaining two contradictory beliefs for survival, e.g. publicly supporting the government ideology while knowing that it oppresses your very existence. This is some crazy-making stuff that Russians seem to have been put through for over a century. And yet, there are still people who fight for truth, healing, and freedom. Over and over, they rise to attend banned protests very likely to land them in jail (or worse). Their stories of stupendous bravery and selflessness consistently inspire. And lest you as a Westerner think that you’re somehow safe because, oh, this is something happening elsewhere, please note that the recent rise of authoritarianism in countries like America takes its playbook straight out of Russia. Attacks on the press, construction of alternate realities, propagation of fake news, persecution of minorities, and the shameless grabbing of executive power: it’s all happening right now.And you know what else? We’ve seen it all before: Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Mao. So don’t read this book just because it’s a riveting account of life in what’s still an undiscovered continent for most Westerners. Don’t read it just because it’s a tour de force of journalistic craft and bravery. Read it because it also informs your life as an American, German, Frenchman, Hungarian, or anyone who values the freedom of human life and ideas. Read it so that you may be impelled to take action.-- Ali Binazir, M.D., M.Phil., author & public speaking trainerPS: Congratulations to Masha Gessen for winning the National Book Award. Thoroughly deserved.

It’s a terrifying and essential book - even if you already know the story or parts of it - because it reads like a funerary oration for one's country. It acknowledges the late-Soviet and post-Soviet Russia’s life and struggle, and then ends with a nearly uniform conclusion from all of its subjects - “there is no future”, and with their attempts (successful or not) to escape or shield themselves from the growing totalitarian haze. The Future is History does a very important thing - it tells people's stories. Gessen has the clear-cut eloquence to preserve those stories' voice and weave them into a larger political narrative. I appreciate the focus on people's perception of themselves within the country, and on the shaping of their memories - and the bold incorporation of trauma frameworks to articulate the historical experience. The book is a very earnest, ethically driven, intellectual, and somehow unavoidably personal attempt to understand what happened to Russia - and to articulate that understanding. The Future Is History without doubt becomes one of the most excellent and important books on contemporary Russia. My issue is the scope of Gessen's interviews. They are seven people - a sociologist, a historian, a psychologist, and the rest are participants and witnesses of their times. But six out of seven are Moscovites. And seven out of seven hold university degrees. Six out of seven were born into intelligentsia. Two out of seven come from prominent political families. And while those are the people who are most visible - due to their location and privileged background - and active in the story that Gessen is telling, they do not have to consume the central spot within it. What happened to Russia is not solely what happened to academics' kids in Moscow.

Masha’s work on the fall of democracy in Russia is arresting. The focus on Homo soveticus in the early chapters portends how historical injustices persevere through succeeding generations. The failings of Boris Yeltsin shine through, and the disturbing rise of Vladimir Putin is written with an appropriate sense of mourning for what comes. While non-fiction, it is not written as non-fiction. We live the lives of Masha’s interviewees in her elegant prose. For much of the book (90’s and 00’s) we can almost relate to their aspirations. As Putin’s second time in power (in name) begins in 2012, we see authoritarianism fall across Russia like a blanket. The violence against LGBT people and the political assassinations are not just abstract events helping elsewhere, they happen to people we know through the text.Russia’s story isn’t just disaster tourism - events in China, the EU, and even the USA demand that this book be taken seriously. Anyone who believes it can’t happen here, wherever here may be, needs to read the last chapters where the pace of democratic collapse is as dumbfounding to Russians as it is to readers.

I have seen and heard of Dr Chopra for years and quite frankly I thought he was a bit of a charlatan. I based this opinion, not on what I heard or read in his books, tapes, or interviews, but on an innate or natural skepticism that has limited me in many areas of my life. That was until late December of last year when I stumbled on 'How to Know God' in the Pretoria Public Library. At the time I picked up the book I was feeling a bit of a resentment cum disappointment at a situation in my life which failed to materialize the way I wanted it to. So I picked up the book to divert the feelings I was having, but a deeper sense said check it out. I checked it out and began reading it almost immediately. And almost immediately I felt the first of a number of epiphanies that have taken place during each of the five times I have read and savored his book.I know this man is right on and what his work has done has set me on a much deeper and freer path then I was on prior to picking up the book. It has simplified the world of theology to the point where I no longer have to consult intermediaries and I am 'Good to Go, based on a simple reliance on God rather then a reliance on dogma, theology or pastor. I recommend this book strongly to fellow travelers, as I do his book and audio-book 'The 3rd Jesus'Mike Conway

Great book.

I bought this audio book to listen to on a long car journey. Although I have long been interested in world religions and attend classes on the subject regularly, I just could not become interested in this book. I found it very hard to follow, possibly because it was narrated by Mr Chopra and not a professional storyteller- the monotone was hard to follow, as was the logic/morality of whatever it was that he was trying to get across. I threw it away at the end of my trip.

I have read / listened to this book 15 times in the last 14 years. The first few times were so that I could fully grasp what he was saying and reconcile it with my Catholic upbringing. Each time thereafter it was to be reminded of what he has to say about my / our evolution and spritiual growth and to do a progress check about how far I have come. I recognize my own spiritual growth in the last 14 years and this book helps me understand the progress I have made.He presents his material in a very methodical and organized manner. It reminds me of listening to a well designed lecture presented by an excellent professor. Each time I started the book I thought I should have a note pad and pen to take notes with but I get completely engulfed in his style and content. I've read and listened to many, many books on spiritual growth and development. None of those I have gone through 15 times like I have this one. 15 times may imply that it is the best book I have ever read. Not quite sure about the best but I would highly recommend this book for the beginner on the spiritual path as well as those who are comitted to work hard and monitor their own spiritual progress. Absolutely excellent book.

I LOVE this book, but wanted to make everyone aware that this audio version is "abridged". I am a little disappointed, as I am also reading the "full" version as part of a study group and have found that many of what I consider important "stories" have been edited out of the audio version. I wish that we were given the option of purchasing either the full or abridged version on audio. That said, this book is transformational and I cannot recommend it enough!

Baptism: Three Views

Review

"If you're undecided on when baptism is proper, or if your mind is made up but you want to understand why equally faithful Christians have an opposite position to yours, read Baptism: Three Views." (Marvin Olasky, WORLD, August 15, 2009)"Regardless of one's theological stance on baptism, the essays in this volume will serve to sharpen and challenge. . . This volume can be very helpful in a variety of venues and climates if people are willing to engage the issue openly and to give an honest hearing of divergent opinions." (Brian Allred, Mid-America Journal of Theology, October 2010)"This book can help Christians understand their church's practice and the practice of other churches in baptism." (Roy B. Zuch, Bibiolotheca Sacra, April-June 2010)"Baptism engages the reader by using etymological examples, contextual examples from Scripture, historical examples, and many other illustrations to draw conclusions, challenge preconceived notions, and point out weaknesses in each argument. The book is geared toward seminary students or pastors seeking to clarify their positions and better understand the positions of others, but is equally engaging for the average reader who has perhaps never fully investigated his personal beliefs on the subject. (Rachel Lonas, Pulpit Helps, August 2009)"If one is looking for a good read on the issues surrounding believer's baptism versus infant baptism, with a hybrid third option thrown in for good measure, then Baptism: Three Views is a recommended place to start." (Rustin Umstattd, Midwestern Journal of Theology, 2009)

In this multi-view book we have three views presented: (1) Believer's Baptism (credobaptism - "credo" being from the Latin for "I believe") - presented by Dr. Bruce Ware, professor of Christian Theology at The Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky; (2) Infant Baptism (paedobaptism - "paidos" from the Greek for "child") - presented by Dr. Sinclair Ferguson, the Senior Minister at First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, South Carolina and professor of systematic theology at Redeemer Seminary in Dallas, Texas; and (3) The Dual-Practice Baptism View - presented by Dr. Anthony N. S. Lane, professor of historical theology at London School of Theology in Northwood, England. The book was edited by David F. Wright (1937-2008), professor of patristic and Reformation Christianity at New College, University of Edinburgh, Scotland - and after his death in 2008 by Daniel G. Reid, the senior editor for reference and academic books at IVP Academic. The structure of the book is that each scholar gives his argument for his own position using biblical, theological, and historical support. After each presentation - the other two author's counter, and the presenter responds to the two counter arguments. Such is the case for each presentation.(1) Bruce Ware argues for credobaptism - "only those who have already become believers in Christ should be baptized and that this baptism should be by immersion in water." In his biblical defense of believers' baptism he gives an abundance of linguistic and contextual support for baptism by immersion from the New Testament (NT - from this point on). He then shows that every clear instance of baptism in the NT relates to the baptism of those who have repented of sin and come to faith in Christ. In this section he highlights and discusses eleven passages from the book of Acts where Luke presents a clear and unambiguous depiction of baptism as being performed only on believers. Next he shows the absence of non believers' baptism in the NT. He then presents a case against infant baptism from its absence in the NT.In the theological section of his essay he gives a thorough presentation of the meaning of the new covenant and what remains the same and what has changed from the OT to the NT. He writes, "If the NT writers genuinely saw a parallel between physical circumcision and infant baptism, it is utterly remarkable that they never said so in the NT....As I endeavor to explain, the fact that circumcision functioned at two levels, both for the ethnic and national people of Israel and for the spiritual reality of being separated unto God, indicates that the sign and seal of baptism simply is not meant to be seen as parallel to circumcision...That is not to deny any relation between circumcision and baptism. Where circumcision and baptism are parallel is exactly where Colossians 2:11-12 see them as parallel, namely, in the spiritual reality to which each of them points...In short, the parallel between circumcision and baptism in the new covenant is not between physical circumcision and infant baptism; rather, the parallel is between spiritual circumcision of the heart and baptism, which signifies regeneration, faith and union with Christ...So then, since only the actual spiritual reality is in view when one is baptized, the sign and seal of baptism relates only to those who have experienced this spiritual reality, that is, to believers in Jesus Christ. The new covenant encompasses only those who know the Lord, those who have been united with Christ, those in whom the Spirit has come to dwell through faith. As such, baptism, the sign and seal of this reality (i.e., not of the promise but of the reality itself), applies rightly only to believers in Jesus Christ."One of the most interesting quotes from the historical arguments in his essay comes from a passage in Justin's Apology quoted in Stander and Louw on what was required by a person before he was accepted for baptism in the early church (100-165 A.D.), "firstly, the person had to believe in the truth of the Christian doctrine; secondly, he had to undertake to live accordingly; thirdly, the baptismal candidate had to undergo a period of devotion and fasting in which he had to request God to forgive all his past sins...Since only mature persons could satisfy these preconditions, it undoubtedly excludes the possibility that infants were involved in these activities." Examples like this one show that infant baptism did not develop in any significant way until the fourth century.Dr. Ware concludes his essay giving two practical ramifications that believers' baptism provides for the health and well-being of the church: "First, the practice of credobaptism has the potential of providing a young Christian a wonderful and sacred opportunity to certify personally and testify publicly of his own identity, now, as a follower of Christ...Second, the practice of credobaptism grounds the regenerate membership of the church...If membership in the new covenant and hence in the church comes via infant baptism, yet salvation comes only by faith, then it follows that paedobaptist churches are necessarily afflicted with the problem of a potentially significant number of unregenerate church members."(2) Sinclair Ferguson argues for paedobaptism - "baptism is the sign and seal of the new covenant work of Christ and is analogous to circumcision, which was the sign of the old covenant of Israel. The biblical continuity between the covenants demands that infants of believers be baptized in addition to those who come to Christ at any age. The mode of baptism is not at issue." Dr. Ferguson's essay traces the evidence for infant baptism starting with the historical evidence from the post-apostolic period onward; then provides a biblical and theological perspective (redemptive-historical). Lastly, he draws some conclusions about the baptism of the infants of believers. In the first part of his essay Ferguson draws upon a snapshot of instances where infant baptism is practiced by the early church: (a) records of mortality - some dating back to the turn of the third century; (b) works of theology - Origen, Tertullian, Cyprian of Carthage refer to infant baptism in their writings; (c) evidence from liturgy compiled by Hippolytus of Rome (d. ca. A.D. 236). It's interesting that none of these practices give a theological reason for the practice of infant baptism.Ferguson writes, "Was the title to baptism of these children grounded in either (1) the faith of their parents/sponsors?--which would be somewhat akin, as we shall see, to a covenantal approach to infant baptism--or (2) was the confession of the parents/sponsors viewed as an expression of the 'faith' of the infants themselves?--which would be in keeping with the wording of later inscriptions describing the deceased infant as being 'made a believer' at the point of baptism."In the second part of the essay Ferguson discusses the importance of covenant signs in the Bible: (a) Noahic covenant - the sign of the rainbow (Gen. 9:12-16); (b) Abrahamic covenant - the sign of circumcision (Gen. 17:11); and (c) Mosaic covenant - the Sabbath day (Ex. 31:16-17). Ferguson comments, "In their own context each of these covenant signs pointed forward to a fulfillment in the new covenant in Christ...This background shows that the physical signs of baptism and the Lord's Supper which Jesus instituted belong to a larger pattern and should be interpreted in the light of this biblical-theological tradition. Baptism cannot be fully understood abstracted from this matrix."Ferguson gives the following definition of baptism from the Westminster Confession of Faith: "Baptism (and all the biblical sacraments) are holy signs and seals of the covenant of grace, immediately instituted by God, to represent Christ and his benefits; and to confirm our interest in Him: as also, to put visible difference between those that belong unto the Church and the rest of the world; and solemnly to engage them to the service of God in Christ, according to his Word."Then Ferguson explains how the sign of circumcision in the Old Covenant is transferred to baptism in the New Covenant: "Baptism functions in relationship to the new covenant in Christ in a manner analogous to the function of circumcision in the Abrahamic covenant. In a word, baptism has the same symbolic significance in relationship to fellowship with God as did circumcision...Baptism signifies all that is in Christ for us; it points us to all that he will do in us and all that we are to become in him...Baptism is not primarily a sign and seal of faith, but to faith."In Ferguson's biblical-theological defense of infant baptism he grapples with the following issues: (a) how circumcision is fulfilled in Christ for the nations; (b) how union with Christ is expressed in baptism; (c) the baptism of Christ and what it means for us; (d) how baptism expresses the fellowship of God within the Trinity; (e) how baptism functions as a sign and seal; (f) divergent views of infant baptism - contrasting the catholic view and subjectivist view (Protestant); (g) How baptism signifies and seals the covenant of grace; (h) the covenant principle and practice of infant baptism; (i) the harmony of paedobaptism with the New Testament mindset; (j) the implications of baptism.(3) Anthony Lane argues for the dual practice view - "affirms both adult, or convert, baptism and either paedobaptism or adult baptism as legitimate options for those born into a Christian home."He begins his essay by sharing his experiences (the only one of the author's to share his personal baptism experience) of being baptized in the Anglican church at the age of three, as well as being a part of baptistic churches for the past thirty years. He writes, "At a later stage I read George Beasley-Murray's Baptism in the New Testament. This Baptist author persuaded me that New Testament baptism was no so much believers' baptism as converts' baptism. Thinking about this made me realize that Baptist and paedobaptist practice are alike modifications of this. At the same time I was concerned about the fact that my children appeared to be believers but were not yet baptized, a situation I could not square with the New Testament. The suggestion that such children should take communion until they were old enough for baptism struck me as hopelessly confused. So Beasley-Murray (with help) moved me away from the Baptist position."In his biblical analysis of baptism he writes, "If we look at these passages (he sites 14 passages from the book of Acts) and ask what was expected to happen, we find four things that repeatedly occur: repentance, faith, baptism, and reception of the Holy Spirit."Lane's essay hones in secondly on the historical development of what he calls "conversion" baptism (he gives the greatest amount of ink to this section). He takes what he calls a "seismological approach" from the 5th century and back tracks to the New Testament. He believes that there is enough evidence to advocate for both paedobaptism and believers baptism in the early history of the church. The third part of Lane's essay focuses on theological and practical considerations of performing dual-baptism. Lane explains, "It must always be remembered that for those raised in a Christian home, baptism, is not an isolated event but simply one stage in a lengthy process...The New Testament practice of baptism was converts' baptism, the immediate baptism of those who come to faith as part of their initial response to the gospel. This needs to be modified for children born into a Christian home, either into infant baptism or into baptism at a later date. The New Testament evidence for how such children were treated is not unambiguous. Both approaches can be defended on biblical grounds. No grounds exist for insisting on one to the exclusion of the other. This policy of accepting diversity is the only policy for which the first four centuries of the church provide clear evidence."In the final analysis for Dr. Ware credobaptism is primarily "a sign of our faith and act of obedience and commitment to Christ." For Dr. Ferguson paedobaptism is primarily "a sign of what we receive from Christ." For Dr. Lane paedo or credo baptism (together with faith and in a subordinate role) is primarily "an instrument by which we embrace Christ and his salvation."Each essay tackles the issue of baptism quite differently. I would say that Dr. Ware (credobaptism) does the best job with the biblical evidence and with an exegesis of baptism. Dr. Ferguson gives a very articulate presentation of the theological reasoning behind paedobaptism. Dr. Lane (dual-view) does the best job of presenting an early history of baptism. In my opinion the one who does the most balanced job in handling the biblical, historical, and theological evidence for his position is Dr. Ware.No matter where you stand on the issue of baptism you will definitely learn a lot from this book. The author's have done their homework and have written with theological acumen and a cogent articulation of the pro's and con's of each view. The one thing I would have liked to have seen at the end of this book is a concluding essay from the editor, or perhaps theologians' from the three different strands articulated in the book. Another helpful asset would have been a question and answer section from the editor to each author. However, for greater insight into the issues of baptism from three great communicators - one would be hard pressed to find a more balanced presentation on baptism than contained in this "Three Views" book. I recommend this book for pastors, students, and Christians on all sides of the equation. It will help clarify one's position, perhaps change your position, or stir within you a desire to search the Scriptures, Theology, and Church History for further study. The author's are firm on their presentations and yet charitable and balanced - which is a good model for those wrestling with this important biblical subject.

I am very grateful to all the contributors of this book, as it's a brief but excellent summary of what a Christian needs to know about baptism to hold a biblically and historically informed conviction on the matter. Bruce Lane and Sinclair Ferguson both give compelling and thorough defenses of their respective credobaptist and paedobaptist positions, showing the biblical, theologically and historical evidences for each, in ways that make both views and the typical arguments for or against them very lucid. Lane's middle view seems to try to unite two things which are by definition opposed, and in doing so dismantles the theological underpinnings of both, while not providing a biblically and theologically rich alternative; nonetheless, it is still a great account of the existing historical evidence. I recommend this book to anyone looking for clarity on the subject of Christian baptism!

This book’s approach of baptism from three perspectives instead of two is what caught my attention. There are many approaches to what baptism means (Reformed, Lutheran, Roman Catholic, Baptist, etc.), but this book is about timing. I came away with a healthy respect for each contributor’s view, but I’d call this a “primer”’rather than an exhaustive book. It’s a good place to start - expecially if you want to see how surviving documents suggest the early church dealt with it. The respect that each contributor had for the other two may be secondary in importance to the material discussed, but it was refreshing.

I love the layout of this book because it's set up like a dialogue. Three people (with differing views on baptism: dual view, paedobaptism view, believer's baptism view) take turns saying there main argument. After person A is done, person B and C get to argue against person A's points. So it works out pretty well, though they do get a little feisty sometimes!!There were some arguments that I couldn't follow well, and I don't know if that was because I was distracted (or bored?) or if it is a little more difficult for laymen to understand. I still own it and plan on reading through it again because the baptism discussion really hits home for me.

The View by Anthony Lane is the truth. I have studied this subject for over 40 years, and just before I read him, I had myself, by God's grace, come to see that neither the baptist nor the paedo-baptist position is something to hold on to as orthodox, for both the credo-Baptists and the paedobaptists wrongly exclude the others, precisely because there is not enough dogmatic scripture on either side, and because both (camps)make too much out of baptism (see 1 Cor. 1:17-21), esp. 1:21, where we find out that faith in Christ alone saves, though the baptism of former heathens and their households immediately upon conversion is the normal apostolic practice. Calvin scholar Lane shows the weaknesses involved in Ferguson's arguments (and Ware's also) from the Scriptures (firstly and mainly) and then church history (secondarily). The NT scriptures never say that baptism is a seal. The Spirit of God is our only seal (1 Cor. 1:22; Eph. 1). The bottom line is that, although NT household baptism leans toward infant baptism of those later born into believers' households, it is not sin to wait until they believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and are saved, and then (be) immediately baptized in God's name. I would thatevery pastor and elder would read this book and submit to Scripture over their tradition's confession of faith, whatever it is.E. Roessing, author of The Grace of Christ.

Overall, the book was very good. However, the Baptist view (I am a Baptist) did not talk about situations where immersion was not possible. The book did not change my own views, but was enlightening and I am grateful to have it in my library.

Perfect for my college classes.

This is the manual, so it should make things less confusing, but I find it's usually the opposite. My professor can explain it so fluidly, but this book makes it confusing to follow mathematically sometimes, as well as the Practice Problems being confusingly worded at times. Overall, I just use it for the practice problems and pay attention to my professor. You can still learn from this book, but you have to be more right-brain than I am to understand the flow.

An excellent text. This is a book if you wish to study Computer Science in general. It does cover the differences between programming languages such as COBOL, FORTRAN, C/C++, Ada, C#, and .NET. It explains a lot about algorithms, bulding blocks, computer systems organization, system software, computer networks, compilers and language translation, computation, databases, information security, artificial intelligence.

so, some of the topics seem out of order, but the material is easier to understand than how my professor taught it. The questions after each section help you understand how things work. He wanted us to get the newer version, but this one served me just fine.

i think this book is good if you're in a group but if you're by yourself learning computer science i'm not sure if this is for you.

I chose this to help others understand the information in a simple way. Am sure there are better books out there, yet thats another chapter.

Just right for what I needed! Thank you! Quick and economic!

I love this book! It is very helpful! I love that it is hard cover and the rubber-ish feel to it. The dust cover it nice but I always take it off when using because it gets in the way, always sliding off, etc.. Very nice cloth that comes with this(we aren't opening ours though). Amazon sells this at an unbeatable price!

Since Diamond and Pearl, the "official" Pokemon guides (produced by the Pokemon Company and published/distributed by Prima) have been released in two volumes, with the Pokedex being included in the second volume, with the exception of Platinum's guide which was thicker and did have a Pokedex. So I bought the X/Y guide realizing and expecting this. What is annoying is that, while pages for each location have a listing of the Pokemon available, there's no index at the back that lists Pokemon by name and points out what routes they are found in for cross-referencing. There's also no listing of attacks and items at the back, just a TM list and info on what the Marts sell. I know that the Diamond/Pearl guide had these lists, because I just checked it as I'm writing this. The guide is hardcover and smaller in terms of page size, about the size of a novel. Which means that the maps and font are smaller and it's much harder to lay flat opened to a specific page. I don't see why they went this route with this guide, especially for reasons that I'll cover later. As a walkthrough, it is fairly detailed, pointing out items, listing (but not identifying on the map) hidden items, and showing the locations of each enemy trainer and the number of Pokemon they have (but not their complete rosters; then again, these guides have never included them). Full rosters are given for major opponents, and detailed strategies are given for Gym Leaders and the Elite Four. The walkthrough only covers up to the Elite Four - post-game matters will likely be in the next volume. It covers how to use the game's touch screen and communication features. So as a walkthrough, it's okay - not great, since I would have liked to see an alphabetical list of available Pokemon as well as details about the attacks and items - after all, this is a new generation of games, so there's going to be new examples of both. So, why did I say this guide was of poor quality? Its construction. Like many of the recent Pokemon guides, this one is printed on semi-glossy paper with poor-quality ink that tends to smear. I was hoping that since this is a supposed "collector's edition" that they would have used upgraded ink to print it. What is worse, however, is the horrible binding job that they did with my particular copy. The back cover and last page of the book has separated from the rest of it after less than a month of use, which is inexcusable. And no, I was not rough with handling the book. The binding came apart through normal use. Of course, the fact that it is a hardcover made using it normally (as a guide that you need to keep opened to a particular page) difficult.I'd really rather they stuck with the old-style (paperback, full-size) Pokemon guides (except with better quality ink, of course). Because not only is this hardcover edition smaller and harder to keep open to a specific page, apparently it was designed solely as a collector's item and wasn't durable enough to withstand, you know, actually using it as a guide.

Any time there is a new Pokémon game coming out, I always preorder the guide book with it. It's just what I've been doing since Gold, Silver, and Crystal. The best guide book I ever bought was the one for Platinum. It was huge, but something was missing from it. When Black and White came out with their Hardcover guide books, it was perfect. When I bought this book, I was expecting something similar and in-between Platinum up through Black and White 1&2. The only thing this book offers you is a simple walkthrough of the game. There is nothing in the back of the book about the Kalos Region pokédex. Nothing on how they evolve or when. On top of that, some of the info in the book is also wrong, such has some of the Horde info. Much better off using Serebii for that sort of info. The book itself, while conveniently hardcover, is also quite small. Certainly nothing compared to the former guidebooks. If you're looking for just a walkthrough, this book is fairly ok for it. But if you're in need of more than that, you'd be better off using the internet for it and saving your money.

Three stars because the information contained within the book is laid out well, and is as good as the guides before it.I've read a lot of the past reviews and have this to say.1) No regional 'Dex is unacceptable. I got it, most of us probably don't need a national pokedex in a volume 1, but c'mon, give us a regional Dex.2) The size is atrocious. This half size book means they likely did half ass research on wether or not this book would be appreciated at this size. Let me tell you now, it's not! The larger books can lay open in my lap while I am playing; this small one is an inconvenience at numerous levels, but mostly because it keep flopping shut on me.3) A couple of the features from previous books have been left out. The main one is the "day of the week guide" and the easy 2 page summary guide, usually found at the beginning of the old books. Those two features are exceptionally helpful and are, sadly, absent. All in all, the information provided is mostly complete, there wasn't a lot of info on the legendaries birds, which would have been helpful (like how to track them?!?!), but I still used the book extensively.

About the Author

Elizabeth Johnston, aka the Activist Mommy, is a speaker and vlogger who educates and inspires the public on the burning social and moral issues of the day that are important to families and patriots. She and her husband, Patrick, who is a medical doctor, author, and movie producer, have been pro-life ministry leaders for many years and home educate their ten beautiful children. Elizabeth daily triggers the Left by confronting the lies of abortion, feminism, Islam, and the homosexual agenda with wit and snark as only she can, and she regularly posts viral commentary videos, which have netted more than seventy million views. As a thought leader on topics of importance to families and faith, Elizabeth has been featured on many major media outlets, such as Fox & Friends, the New York Times, TheBlaze, and Christian Broadcasting Network. When the Lord says the righteous are as bold as a lion, He means it!!!!! This wonderful Sister of the Lord is the most bold, the most brave, the most wonderful light our dark nation has EVER had! And I truly mean that with all of my heart. She is changing mothers, changing women, educating people, inspiring Christians and speaking truth in a nation that hates truth! Remember that Jesus was hated SO MUCH that they killed Him! The Activist Mommy is getting threats daily all because of the love she has for the Lord. She reminds me of the courage of faithful while reading Pilgrims Progress, she is a woman I strive to become like in speaking truth, loving her family and loving Jesus. Her crown in heaven will be more beautiful than anyone in our modern day and I'm thankful for her witness and testimony and courage. God bless her always!!

This is a wonderful read!I usually don't go out of my way to review books and products, but I am seeing a lot of negative reviews on this so I felt obligated to let anyone reading these reviews to know that this is an excellent read. I don't think the people who rated it a 1 star have read or even held a copy, so I am not sure where they're getting their insight from.Happy reading everyone!

As a Christian, for many years I shied away from politics. One, because I was uninformed and uninterested. Two, because I didn't want to misspeak and turn someone off to Christ. Now that political issues like abortion and graphic sex-education are so wide-spread it is no longer political, it is a moral issue. This booked helped me see that. Reading Elizabeth's story of how she stood up to magazine giant, Teen Vogue, and with the help of many other Momma Bears, got it shut down, gave me hope that there is decency in the world and that my voice and opinion matters and can change things. I no longer want to sit on the sidelines. Thank you Elizabeth for standing up for morals and values and sharing your experiences in this book. I now stand behind you.

Every woman should read this book!

For many years the Christian community has been reluctant to speak and gradually our culture has moved further and further away from the way God intended us to live. We've lost our moral compass and our children and grandchildren will suffer the consequences. Elizabeth Johnston reminds us of the importance of speaking out against evil. We are to love each other while holding each other accountable for our actions.

This book is a must read for every parent! The negative reviews being made are from people who have not bought or read this book. We need to wake up and protect our children and protect the world we live in from those who are promoting what I believe is proving to be a "New World Order". There is no hatred in this book and anyone who really reads this book will see that for themselves. Once again, the left is trying to muffle the voice of someone who has a different view from theirs. Trying to silence our freedom of speech. Wake up America!

The content of this book is what many Americans during past decades believed! Now, the America HATING Democrat Party (& their PRAVDA-PROSTITUTE) the mainstream media, have done everything in their (Satanic) power to squelch the truths contained in this book!

Great ministry! Blessed courage for the love of her and ours families, and daughters and sons. A lesson of what is real fortitude in woman embodiment!
