I have written a lot of code in my career but did not use Access until quite recently. I found Learn Access 2003 VBA to be well-written and a quick and easy read. Mike Smart takes you step-by-step through learning the Access Database interface up to programming in VBA, all in concise lessons you can complete in less than an hour. His building-block style gets you into working with the program and creating your own databases right away. You're writing and executing code before you even knew you were programming!Mike uses numerous real-life scenarios in his lessons and includes plenty of Tips and Tricks along the way. The book does not talk down to newbies nor does it dumb-down the information which would bore experienced programmers to tears. The lessons are engaging and practical. Since VBA works across the entire suite of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) you can build programs which automate data collection and report production. You'll become more efficient, making you more valuable to your employer.Learn Access 2003 VBA is highly recommended for anyone who wants to get more out of the Office suite of programs.

I have been programming Access databases for years now although I am not employed as a programmer. I've written several databases to use for my job as a Network Administrator as well as for personal use. I am currently building a database to inventory my coin collection. I ran into all kinds of difficulty because the particulars of coin collecting demand a more robust database than usual. I have several books on Access from the early version to 2003 but finding answers to the problems I encountered was difficult and I wasn't getting anywhere with them. This book has been more of a help than any that I have own so far. Although I sit and read technical books like some people read novels I have always learned more by doing than by reading. I forget things I have read if I don't put it into practice. Learning by doing sticks with me longer. By going through the lessons in the book answers to my problems with my coin inventory came to light. Certainly the answer could be found in the other books I own but seeing a database in action and the code behind it to make it happen was far more advantageous than just reading about a function or routine. I highly recommend this book to those who learn by doing rather than by just reading.

I have invested hundreds of dollars in SQl and db books, and like the proverbial dog, I have been chasing my tail.Mike uses the right teaching method. It is a joy to cruise along the book and really learn.Finally I think that creating a professional DB is possible for idiots like me.This book reminds me of my medical school days when I used to read British textbooks. I have dabbled in VBA programming for Access over the years but have not really understood what I was doing. I have read through multiple Access programming books that sometimes left me even more confused of the process.This is the FIRST book that does a excellent job of laying the ground work for a beginner ACCESS programmer. The book takes you through building a database from the ground up. I have a much better understanding of the VBA programming structure and feel very confident I can create a professional database with ease. If you have a basic understanding of the Access objects like tables, querys, forms and reports and want to learn the foundation of VBA programming this is the book for you!

As an MBA and a novice programmer attempting to create a professional database application for work there is absolutely nothing better than this book! This book was extremely easy to follow and very well organized. It allows someone with little to no knowledge of VBA the ability to quickly learn and digest complex programming for extremely useful professional database applications. The author Mike (aka. The most helpful person ever) immediately responded to my emails when I had questions!!!! This is an awesome product and Mike provides excellent customer service!!!!

I was very pleased with the book "Learn Access 2003 VBA With The Smart Method." I used the 2007 version of Access when working through the exercises in this book, and ran into only a few things that didn't work as they were supposed to. I found his approach very understandable and well thought out. I was able to incorporate many of the concepts in this book in databases I have built for work. When I got stuck due to version issues, I e-mailed my questions to the address in the front of the book and received a response within hours from the author himself. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to take Access up a notch with VBA. Well done.

This book is a classic so there is really nothing I can say that others have not already said, and better. It is science fiction that addresses the social consequences of contact between people from different planets rather than fixating on technology and the things that can go wrong. It is a great story with wonderful characters and descriptions of imagined worlds. It addresses the issues of sex and gender by imagining how a person from a world with two biological sexes would interact in a world where everyone is both sexes at once. The issue is not desire and the sex act, but rather how our social perceptions, interactions and expectations are shaped in rather profound ways by our ideas about gender. This is not the main point of the book but rather part of the rich social and philosophical landscape where the action takes place. I had been meaning to read this for years and am now a devoted Le Guin fan. I really think this might have made it into my top 20 favorite books.

Ursula K Le Guin. I had heard the name many times growing up. It was always spoken with respect by people who held my respect. And yet, for all of that I had not read her work until now. I wonder how different my life would have been if I had read her work sooner. I'll never know.This book is, at its simplest and least descriptive, a thought experiment. What if there were a world where gender as we know it did not exist.But that is not the half of it. It is not even close.This book examines how nationalism can be wonderful and yet poisonous. It compares the societies of differing nation-states. It looks at humanity's role in nature. It stares unflinchingly at love in various forms and in the end, the reader has gone through a journey nearly as transformative as the one taken by our protagonist, Genly Ai.My only true complaint stems from the idea that Genly's gender biases are so strong that he consistently labels the Gethenians as he despite having been briefed of their genderless status before beginning the assignment.Still ignoring the pronoun confusion, this was an amazing book. It is thoughtful and thought provoking. It is wise and wonderful. And though a world as cold as Winter sounds like my own personal hell, I will revisit the characters again with pleasure.

This book changed my thinking about gender. The planet natives are normally gender neutral (one can't say androgynous as they are neither male nor female, rather than both) until they enter kemmer, a sort of heat, when they become randomly male or female. After kemmer they go back to the neutral state, unless pregnant. So one person can be the mother or two and the father of three.This book was published in 1969, and LBGTQ people may find some of the ideas dated, but it remains a profound exploration of what happens when the basic traits by which one is defined in one's own society don't apply in another culture. I was surprised when I re-read "The Left Hand of Darkness" to realize it could apply to any trait - race, religion, even political affiliation.Highly recommended.

This book started out quite slow. I did not know if I would be able to finish it. All I can tell you is, hang in there, learn the weird names, and it will be worth it. In the story, she tells something not quite relatable in words alone. One of my new favorite authors.

On Gethen, human envoy Genly Ai has been sent to convince the planet’s leaders to join the Ekumen, a loose confederation of planets who do not rule one another, but who cooperate in matters of interest to all Ekumen members. Barriers to Ai’s success include Gethenian pride, antipathy and discord between that world’s rival nation-states, and Ai’s lack of understanding in a global culture fueled by the ambisexual nature of Gethenians. The only native who believes the Ekumen can save Gethen is Estraven, a native whom Ai regards with suspicion. But when politics casts Estraven in a criminal light, Ai is dragged into a fierce powerplay and finds himself imprisoned, beaten, and left for dead. Only by abandoning his prejudice—and learning to trust the Otherness of his savior—can he survive his ordeal.The Left Hand of Darkness was originally published in 1969 and is the title that established Le Guin as a science fiction writer. It’s incredibly intricate, an excellent example of worldbuilding. Politics and governance are well-represented, if convoluted, which makes it all the more believable. The climate on Gethen is wintry; inhabitants and their lifestyles reflect this in every detail. But what captivated me most was the nature of Gethenian sexuality. On Gethen, gender is irrelevant. Though Ai uses predominantly masculine pronouns throughout the narrative, native humanoids on Gethen are not born male or female. They are neither—until they enter “kemmer,” a regular period of increased hormonal activity in which Gethenians are driven to find a partner who is also in kemmer, for sex and procreation. Hormone levels determine which partner becomes the inseminator and which becomes the recipient. If the recipient becomes pregnant, they remain “female” throughout the gestation period, after which they return to normal. This cycle drives the entire culture, coloring every aspect of Gethenian society.Though this isn’t the only detail to recommend the book, it’s definitely key to the story. At the time it was written, Gethenian sexuality drew a lot of attention among readers and reviewers; but it’s still relevant today. While some have criticized Le Guin for homophobia, and while Le Guin later expressed regret that she’d portrayed Gethenian norms as heterosexual, the fact remains that the story explores the nature of gender in our own society, as well as on Gethen. For my own part, I found the development of friendship and love between characters so widely diverse much more meaningful than when or how or even whether copulation occurred.In any event, The Left Hand of Darkness is a classic in science fiction literature, a multi-layered story that explores not only cultural divides but sociological ones as well as deep, philosophical quandaries, a must-read for all sci-fi fans. Groundbreaking and evocative, I found myself rooting for both Ai and Estraven, and was sorry to turn the last page. Only one of multiple novels set in the Hainish series, LHoD can be read as a standalone tale. One caveat: Le Guin runs heavy on detail and subtlety. It isn’t exactly an easy read. If that bothers you, dear reader, push through. I promise the payoff is worth it.

 I have purchased and reviewed maybe 4 or 5 audio programs from this same author and this is probably my favorite. Why?Because it does such a wonderful job of taking the most challenging areas of Spanish grammar and making them very easy for a native English speaker to understand. And without giving you the feeling that you are learning grammar in a classroom setting. In fact, when I am learning Spanish grammar with this program I feel more like I’m just learning conversational Spanish as opposed to learning the rules or structure of a language.I will now go over some of the topics or areas of Spanish grammar that are covered in this program . One topic that is covered is the “conditional” tense in Spanish. And that teaches how to say phrases in Spanish such as:If I were to win the lottery, I would do X or Y.OrIf I were rich, I would do X or Y.There also a couple of lessons which taught me the “conditional perfect” tense in Spanish as opposed to just the “conditional” tense in Spanish. And by learning how to properly use the “conditional tense” in Spanish, I now know how to express myself if I want to say phrases like:I would’ve spokenShe would have walked.They would have hired him.We would’ve invited more people to the party, etc.I also feel very comfortable using plural commands in Spanish now. So instead of only being able to tell just one person to be seated I can now tell several people to be seated. And instead of only being able to just one person to be quiet, I now know how to tell two or more people to be quiet.Another thing that really impresses me about this program is that there is so much content for your money. Besides the 30 audio lessons which make up the core part of the program there also 10 bonus lessons which teach intermediate or advanced topics of conversational Spanish.But I think what I like most about this program is the fact that it does such an awesome job of teaching the Spanish subjunctive. And the Spanish subjunctive is one area of Spanish grammar that has really frustrated me in the past. I’m still far from an expert when it comes to using the Spanish subjunctive but after using this program I do feel a lot more comfortable using the Spanish subjunctive.If you have any questions about this program, please post your questions below and I’ll do my best to answer your questions.

I found it to be exceptional for intermediate-level learners. I bought Learn Intermediate Spanish (Lessons 31 to 38) which are now a part of this program. Once again, another great product from a publisher who continues to create some of the finest audio programs for learning a foreign language. As I posted and asked in my review of Learn Intermediate Spanish (Lessons 31 to 38), when is this publisher going to begin offering programs that teach languages other than Spanish and Italian? I'd love to learn some other romance languages with this method or maybe even German.

I already have some of the intermediate lessons in this set. I have the ones with the orange audiobook cover which are Lessons 31 to 38. If I liked those lessons then I must say that I love these. There are so many lessons in this bundle to help me make progress.By the way, the creator of this program says don't use the ebook transcript with the program and to just use the audio to develop the best pronunciation and accent. Despite what he says, I find the ebook transcript very helpful because it helps me visually reinforce my new vocabulary words.

I've tried several other audio programs, but so far I like this one the best. It systematically increases the difficulty and the speakers are native. I haven't finished the intermediate yet, but just finished the beginning version.

What a relief that all of the levels from this Spanish tutorial are now available here and for less money than what this company charges on their site. From what I can gather, the bonus gifts offered here are basically the same.

I was really surprised that there is so much content included and the content is definitely world class.

I have been wanting to learn the Spanish subjunctive for a really long time. Although the main program consists of 35 audio Spanish lessons with each lesson lasting about 30 minutes, there are 10 lessons that are specifically designed to teach everything about the Spanish subjunctive. From the Spanish subjunctive mood when expressing desire or preference, Spanish subjunctive using phrases such as "es mejor que" and "es necesario que", Spanish subjunctive with phrases expressing possibility, all the way to the Spanish subjunctive substituting the infinitive with the subjunctive mood. This program is exactly what I needed to help me learn the Spanish subjunctive. Another thing I really like about this Spanish program is that there are 10 bonus Spanish lessons (lessons A to J) which cover a lot of colloquial Spanish.

I got more than what I expected out of this bundle. The narration was great. Everything is easily broken down to understand and use correctly. There is absolutely no way that you would not advance your Spanish fluency with this book. This author did a great job with the information, techniques, training and practice guides he provided. I have listened to quite a few books by other authors and didn't enjoy them as much as this one. In fact, I think I will listen to the fist bundle as soon as I can! I was given a free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I must have around 200 to 300 books on watercolor, but none of them has been as focused and to-the point as this one. I don't think there is a dozen excess words in the whole book. I have highlighted points that are important to me and read the book several times and I've only had it two days! If I had to choose only one book from my library of watercolor instruction books this would be it! If you want to paint in watercolors, BUY THIS BOOK!

This is one of the Best watercolor books ever.Ron is a great artist and instructor. His tips and instructions..step by step are very easy to understand and so informative. Even though I am an advanced painter, there is always more room to learn. I highly recommend this book for both beginner and advanced artists.

I'm not even a watercolorist, but the principles herein were so good and so basic to good painting design, I wound up using them in oils!

I love everything about this book! From Ron’s beautiful art, to his thoughtful gift of helping us learn from his years of practice, a great gift to us... highly recommend!!!

Always well received, so I immediately contacted him to order. I have been painting in watercolor for about 10 years and took drawing courses before that. This is a book for an aspiring artist, not a raw beginner. It would be very OK for a beginner to buy it, but know that some experience and instruction will enable you to get more from Ron's book.I have read through it several times now and have marked all the tips I found to be very useful. Go outdoors. Take a sketchbook. Draw what you see. Create and experiment with compositions. Where or what is the focal point? That's where the most detail needs to be as well as the lightest light and darkest dark-together. Modify what you see to create the best composition. On pg. 59, you will see a page of Ron's large Bee sketchbook. That alone should convince you to take a large enough page book outdoors to experiment with BEFORE you start your painting. Iain Stewart is also a big advocate of this technique. As an Urban Sketcher for many years and an addicted travel journal sketcher, I can endorse all of Ron's coaching in the book. The last section is devoted to "Tips and Techniques". A pure novice may not "get" these but anyone who has been on the watercolor journey like I have will read them and say "Yes!". Buy this book and better yet, take a workshop from Ron. I gave this book 4 stars only because I am a very tough person to please!

En Plein Air: Watercolor is a fascinating art book; one I hadn’t realized I needed to read until I spotted it listed online. This art book teaches you everything you need to know about painting with watercolors out in the real world – out in the open air, so to speak. What originally caught my attention about En Plein Air: Watercolor was the cover. The colors were so beautiful, and the artwork so vibrant, I knew I had to learn more about it. What I found inside did not disappoint. En Plein Air covers everything you might expect, and then some. It is a traditional art book, in that it teaches you everything you need to know about the particular medium included (watercolors, in this case), but as I stated above it also gives you the important starting information for painting outside. That sounds like a simple concept, but there’s more to it than that. This book does a good job of explaining it, and giving tips and tricks. This book is split into seven sections; drawing, painting on location (this was my personal favorite), composition & technique, color & value, tips & techniques, the Artist’s Voice, and sketchbooks to studio. As you can see, it includes a little bit of everything. It’s certainly everything an aspiring artist would need to get started.
